Everything You Need to Know About Pelvic Organ Prolapse (Symptoms, Treatment & Recovery)
If you've been diagnosed with pelvic organ prolapse, you're probably spiraling. Googling everything. Wondering if you're doomed for life, if you need surgery, if you can still work out.
Let's clear some things up.
Prolapse is when one or more of your pelvic organs (bladder, uterus, or bowels) drops into the vaginal canal because the support structures aren't holding things up the way they used to. It can happen after childbirth, from years of heavy lifting, chronic constipation, genetics, or just living in a body that does hard things.
And here's what your doctor probably didn't tell you: the grade doesn't matter as much as you think it does. A grade 1 can feel worse than a grade 3. A grade 3 can have zero symptoms while a grade 1 is miserable. The grading system is really just for insurance purposes and surgical qualification.
What actually matters is how you feel. Can you work out? Can you live your life? Can you lift heavy without feeling like your organs are going to fall out?
The answer is yes. But you have to know what you're doing.
In this episode, I break down what prolapse actually is, why it happens, the real answer to "can it go away," what symptom management looks like, and why you should still be lifting. I also get into why not all pelvic floor PTs are created equal, how to find the right provider for you, and what to do if you've been told to just stop running and do some Kegels.
If you've been told you need surgery but you're not ready, or if you're scared to move your body because you think your organs are going to fall out, or if you have no idea where to start—this episode is for you.
There's so much you can do to feel better. Let's get into it.
